Statement
Genesis itself bears signs of late composition: it says Abraham's family came from 'Ur of the Chaldeans', yet the Chaldeans are known only from sources from the ninth century BCE on; and it mentions the Philistines, who appear in Canaan only after about 1200 BCE. Whatever real memories it holds seem set within a narrative of a later age.
