ZAKHORIUM

Statement

The authors admit the causes are not well understood. Christianity was the most evident driver, but not the only one. The codex, ancestor of the book, cheaper and more portable than the scroll, may have given scripture new weight, not only among Christians but also among the Manicheans, followers of the prophet Mani. And religion itself changed, with more stress on inner transformation, care for others and communities bound by faith rather than by blood or hometown.
