Statement
The rabbinic Sabbath is a classic example: the rabbis identified 39 categories of labor in the biblical prohibition, such as writing two letters, and regulated what could be carried, how food was prepared and even which sandals could be worn (those with protruding nails were forbidden). Many rules derive not from verses but from the Oral Torah.
